River Guiding on Chateauguay, Diable and Yamaska Rivers in Quebec

I now offer bilingual guided fishing trips on the Chateauguay, Diable and Yamaska Rivers in Quebec.  Easily accessible from Montreal, the Diable River is an easy 1.5 hour drive while the Chateauguay and Yamaska Rivers is less than 1 hour away.

My name is Philip Short and I started fly fishing 10 years ago on the Diable. I have fished and competed in many competitions across Canada and the US but have never found rivers that I prefer over the Chateauguay and Diable. I am a member of Trout Unlimited Chateauguay Chapter and fly fishing Club des Moucheur Endiablé; I have a deep love for fishing these rivers and enjoy sharing my knowledge . I am a very patient instructor and will do my best to make your day on the water very enjoyable with many memorable fish.

I have been a licenced guide in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador for 2 years, registration #11996, and hold the following qualifications and certificates:

CPR and Emergency First Aid, Level C Certificate

Canadian Certificate; Pleasure Craft Operator

Canadian Fire Arms Safety Certificate

Québec Hunting Certificate

Canoe & Kayak Courses, Pte-Claire Canoe Club

The area that I guide on the Chateauguay River near Huntingdon is from the Canadian/American border downstream all the way to Athelstan. This section contains all the different characteristics of a great trout stream from riffles, runs, pocket water and pools. This section of the Chateauguay contains Brown, Rainbow and Brook Trout; most of the trout are wild and some stocked fish move downstream from the American side.

On the Diable River, I guide in the fly fishing only section from P1 to P5 which is along Duplessis Road just outside Mont-Tremblant Village. The Diable River is a more challenging river to wade, consisting of large boulders and fast water. It contains mostly stocked Brown and Brook Trout but there are some holdovers.

Whether you are a beginner fly fisher or experienced fly fisher, these streams have something for you.

Availability and Rate

I am available to guide Saturdays and Sundays from April to November (Chateauguay) and May to September (Diable). In June, July and August I am available to guide some days during the week. Please contact me with specific dates. On the Yamaska, the trout season runs from December 20 – March 31 and I am available most of those weekends.

Daily Guiding Rate is $125 for one person and $175 for two. I limit guiding to two people due to the fact that I cannot give enough personal attention to each person.

Each client should bring their own lunch and equipment. For beginners to fly fishing, or those just trying the sport and without equipment, I can supply the rod, reel and flies.

Please feel free to ask me any more questions or book a trip at phil.short514@Gmail.com. You can call or text me on my cellphone which is 514-434-9979.
